This year The kids qualified for
the CTC and Mckay scholarships but due to the school setting issue they had to forfiet there Scholarships.
The
kids where on the scholarships since 2001. We have been trying to advocate for the forgotten Kids since 2006 when bill 0256
passed I knew my son was going to face some extreme days. I knew Bobby's sisters would not be able to be go to a
school setting due to the needs of my son. We had to go as a family travelling to Miami and staying in other counties for
large periods of time.
We as parents could not leave our minor kids at home .
We went before our Local Goverment. Things looked Promising for a while
but know one followed up help us. But when we went to the hospital we were not able to follow up in the commission's group.
When I got back after Bobby's two surgeries I followed up and called Dick Hollahan who was kind enough to make a follow
up call. But when we gotr to the resposible group the request was still being held up by the state office to change text to
allow families who have children with spexciak need who are in dager of loosing there lives or have a rough time physically
being at home to be able to create a school to be able to qualify as a school to recive the Mckay Shcolarships.
All was explained to the commissioners . All was approved to change text to help but
the State stopped it and the commisioner did not push it through.
It was posted in the news paper about our efforts. and we had even gotten a written letter stating
it would be moved forward.
Because we did not continue to come and petition or voice our
concern the request was placed aside. We did not picket nor were we loud because we had to go to the hospital to watching
our son life in the balance. We have gone through so much and cannot be at a meeting everytime our request is brought up.
Bobby almost died three times in August of 2007. and agin had
a second surgery in March 14 2008. We went to the capitol to try to take care of the problem before Both Surgeries. What do
we have to do to get your attention?
What do
you want us to do ? We ask by taking the time and after we have asked on several occasions people start getting upset
and start finding other ways to get someones attention.
Well
look below and see what we did do and were not able to get our own local Goverment to help. They tried but two years later
have not been succesful.
So Bnow is all being
publisized and I hope those behind us get some kind of help.
My girls are now in high school and had to be homeschooled and so did BObby and if Bobby does not finish by
21 he will have to drop out and aim for his GED but we are not going to give up. My son will have a diploma of completion.
And I dont mean a special diploma. A special dip[loma does not hold
water it just means the child put in the time and not gained the education.
